When you build something, you want to build it to last. Second only to a sturdy foundation, quality framed building construction is a key component in creating a structure that will prove sound for decades to come.
We want the things that we build for you to last forever, so you can trust MF Contracting to frame it right.
What exactly is structural framing?
Framing refers to the studs, plates and headers, for example, that—when assembled—provide a framework for a building’s walls, floors, and ceilings or rooftops. Walls are the most basic structures.
- Studs are the vertical members that connect the top plate to the bottom plate.
- Plates are the horizontal members. Bottom plates, for example, connect walls to floors while sill plates support windows.
- Headers are usually doubled-up horizontal members used over doors or windows to transfer loads to the associated shorter jack studs.
However, framing jobs can also encompass floors—using sills, beams, girders, joists and subflooring—as well as ceilings or rooftops—using rafters, for example.
Why is quality framed building construction important?
The frame is essentially a building’s skeleton. It not only gives the structure shape but also provides the framework that will hold many of a home or building’s working systems—everything from doors, windows and insulation to electrical systems, plumbing, and HVAC and ductwork systems.
Meanwhile, that framework has to be strong. It has to be able to support the weight of all the other building materials, hold the weight of everything and everyone who will enter the building, and stand against the forces of nature.
What types of building projects need framed construction?
Whether it’s a pole building, a small addition to a home or a mansion, every structure needs a sturdy framework that will meet code and serve its purpose. Even finishing a basement requires studding out the walls so that you’ll have the proper moisture barriers, insulation and utilities behind the finished walls.
