Additions & New Builds

Additions have the ability to transform a home. A space that once felt cramped can instead feel expansive and roomy all thanks to the addition of square footage. These kinds of new builds can take a number of forms.

Conventional additions

Conventional additions literally add on to a home and are usually designed to merge seamlessly with the house’s architectural design. They can add one very large room or several. More, they can be one level or multistory.

Additions can be designed to serve any number of popular purposes.

  • A primary bedroom suite complete with bath can provide space and privacy.
  • An in-law suite or apartment can keep aging parents close yet afford them a degree of independence.
  • A great room offers room to relax or entertain in comfort. Great rooms often have an adjacent small bathroom or powder room for guests.
  • A home office or workshop can supply quiet, private work space with a separate entry and restricted access from the rest of a home.

Bump-out additions

Bump-Out Additions can expand an existing room or add a small space without disturbing outdoor features like mature trees or landscaping. They’re basically a mini-addition cantilevered to your foundation, joists or slab. They offer a way of expanding a space those few extra feet that you really wish you had.

Popular applications include expanding a bathroom to accommodate a tub, for example, adding a laundry room to a kitchen, converting a breakfast nook into a larger dining space, creating storage space or a walk-in closet, and setting aside a work nook or mudroom.

Sunrooms and enclosed porches

Sunrooms and enclosed porches offer the relaxing vibe of the outdoors without the issues of bugs or weather. Since they often serve as three-season rooms, they offer considerable flexibility in construction design.

Garage Conversions

Garage conversions are also considered a type of addition. In many cases, the garage is already on a slab, is roofed, and may even have a finished exterior and interior as well as electrical power. The work is in replacing the garage doors with attractive, well-insulated wall constructs and converting an area designed to house cars into one suited and approved to code as living space for people.
